INORMS 2020 Pre-conference Workshops

Invitation to INORMS 2020 Pre-conference Workshop on “Strengthening Research Ecosystems in LMICs through Research Management Competency Development”  

Through the generous support of ESSENCE on Health Research, a global research funders initiative hosted at the Special Programme for Research and Training on Tropical Diseases (TDR) of the World Health Organisation, the Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA) will be hosting a pre-conference workshop at the International Network for Research Management Societies (INORMS) 2020 conference, in Hiroshima, Japan.

Workshop description:
Professional research managers and administrators (RMA’s) are essential enablers of excellent research translating to an efficient research ecosystem/enterprise.

The workshop will specifically focus on understanding the research ecosystem and the strategies which are being used to develop key competencies for RMA’s in low and middle-income countries (LMIC’s) in different contexts such as higher education, research institutions, funding agencies and government agencies.

The workshop will include the following:

  • An opening scene-setting session, exploring the challenges and opportunities for RMA’s in a developing world context through perspectives shared by workshop participants
  • A panel discussion looking at key interventions being implemented across various LMIC regions
  • Visualising what an ideal research ecosystem could look like and identifying key targets for LMIC’s to progress towards this

Target audience:
The pre-conference is targeted at research administrators, research managers and research leaders from LMICs but is not limited to delegates from LMIC’s. The target number of participants is sixty (60) delegates in total.
In order to have representation from a wider range of professional associations in the discussion related to research ecosystems in LMICs, as well as representatives from a diverse range of LMIC’s, interested delegates are being requested to register their interest in participating in the workshop by 20 December 2019. The expressions of interest will be reviewed in line with the objectives of the workshop and the final decision will be communicated to successful applicants by 31 January 2020.

Cost:
Attendance of the workshop is free for delegates already registered for and attending the main conference.
Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements and costs.
