Rethinking Global University Rankings

In an effort to highlight the disconnect between the approaches taken by some of the global university rankings and community-agreed best practice in responsible research evaluation, the Rankings sub-group developed a mechanism for rating global University Rankers.  The approach is based on a community-developed list of criteria for fair and responsible university assessment, translated into a series of questions by which each criterion might be judged. Six ranking agencies were invited to self-assess themselves against these criteria, after which a range of international experts formed their own assessments, calibrated by Global Rankings Expert, Richard Holmes. The outputs from this work are available below.
